“Poet” is a 3yr old, 17hh, Perch/Friesian cross gelding. Let me just start with the word SAFE. This boy can take a joke, and then he will ask you for another! Here is a kind, honest, gentle and loving boy, with everything to offer! Who doesn’t love tall, dark and handsome?!
Poet has an old soul. He is an in your pocket type of guy, with the best, silly, personality!!
This gentle giant has amazing ground manners. In the barn, he has no bad habits. He can live in, or out, goes out with a mixed herd, and causes no drama. He will stand around all day long on the cross ties to be loved on, groomed, bathed, tacked, bridled, etc. Don’t worry about his size, he is a gentleman with picking up his feet! Poet is safe for absolutely anyone to work with, kids, beginners, you name it!! He has the temperament of a therapy horse. He could care less about commotion around the barn, dogs playing next to him, kids running around and screaming. He loves to be cuddled, and place his big head right into your arms and close his eyes.
Poet loves to play with a ball, he will follow it around and kick it back to you. He doesn’t mind the ball being thrown over his back, or under his legs, he enjoys the fun games!
On the trails, I would trust putting my grandmother on him. He is gentle and easy going. He absolutely loves trail riding and exploring! Poet crosses even the scariest obstacles, and doesn’t bat an eye! He just chugs along like a 20yr old trail boss. He will cross scary bridges, water, rocks, logs, and enjoys splashing around in the lake! He has been ridden on the trails by beginners and makes a fantastic guest horse! He goes out with a group of rowdy dogs and doesn’t mind them at all. Fox hunting season is here, and he would make an amazing hunt mount with his quiet mind, and braveness! He doesn’t feed into other horses being naughty on the trails, he just does his thing and ignores them. Poet is safe with traffic, machinery, four wheelers, etc. This boy will tote your beginner husband around all day long, and your husband will enjoy it because he doesn’t have to touch the reins, Poet will just follow right along. This boy is just plain safe.
Poet has been slowly introduced to ring work. He has not been pushed in the ring, as he is young, however he learns very fast, and wants to figure out what you are asking. He has toted children around in the ring, and he is forgiving. He is learning about collection, and leg yielding, but again nothing has been pushed with this boy, we have just been taking our time and letting him learn at an easy pace. He has trotted ground poles, but he has not been started over fences yet. Poet will walk, trot, canter, and knows his leads! He will go around the ring in every gait, on the buckle! He is a beautiful mover, and shows potential in almost every direction as he continues to grow into his body. I could see this boy doing western and classical dressage, low level eventing, and more!!
Poet has very nice gaits, especially for a horse his size. His trot is comfortable, and he has an uphill, smooth, lofty canter! He has the nicest canter I have felt, on a large draft cross. He has smooth transitions, and listens well to voice commands! He is a good combo of whoa and go, he is a push style type of ride in the ring, but no crop or spurs are needed. Poet knows the word “whoa” and backs up well. With his gaits being smooth and rhythmic, I could see this boy having a career in vaulting! Poet rides western, english, and bareback.
Poet is brave, and willing. He doesn’t mind tarps, flags, being dressed up, having a ball thrown all over him, with his size and presence, Poet would make a great police mount as well!! He has the BEST “what’s next” personality. Poet does not need to be in a routine, he can sit for weeks and be the same horse. Crazy for a three year old right? And he is only going to get better with age! Poet is not broke to drive and has never been driven.
Loading and trailering is no issue for this dude. He fits in my QH size horse trailer. He loads right up every time! He is good for the vet and farrier. Poet is an easy keeper with no supplements, no maintenance, and he never asks for anything. He is the same horse off property every time. Poet is barefoot, with nice solid hooves. He has zero soundness or health issues.
Dont let his age scare you away. Poet is an all around reliable horse. He has been used for photo shoots and loves to pose! He is also safe with cows!
This young man is full of potential in every direction, he is adored and loved here, and I would love to follow his life and watch him blossom.
