Felina is a 6 yr old mare we have owned since she was 2. When we started her as a 2 year old filly she was easy to work with and had a willing attitude. Those characteristics still hold true to her personality today. From overnight trail rides to road riding; arena work to moving cows from pasture to pasture; and ponying our five year old daughter's horse as she learned to trail ride this summer are some of the many things we have put in front of Felina and she has taken it all in stride. One example of Felina's willingness was when she was taken on her first over night trail ride that turned into a ride at midnight through the mountains of West Virginia where at times there was no trail to follow. The entire three hour trail ride she trusted her rider and patiently waited as we picked our way through the mountain side with only a head lamp until we reached the top of the ridge ahead. Felina has also been ridden extensively in the arena working on her body control and finesse. She can be setup to take her lead departures straight from a walk. She understands shoulder control and has a nice spin building. She has the ability to travel in a nice jog but will move out in an extended trot if asked. Felina has potential to be successful in any cow event, trail or ranch classes, or would make a great working horse on a ranch. We don't recommend Felina to a beginner as she does her best with a confident rider and will display ear pinning at times on the ground, as mares will, usually when catching her. However that soon changes once haltered as she becomes quite pleasant to be around and enjoys attention. But hey, if you take a look at her backwards then her ears will always be forward! But in all seriousness, Felina is a great mare that we've enjoyed having in our program the last 4 years and has played an important part in our family trail rides and adventures.
